Customs Court approves charge sheet of betel nuts, tyres, curtin cloth smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved charge sheet against suspect namely Nazeer Ahmed son of Haji Muhammad Khan, who was nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle betel nuts, tyres, curtain cloth etc.

On October 26, 2019, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate of Preventive submitted interim charge sheet and informed that on actionable information, customs team intercepted Yutong passenger bus Al-Mahmood coach bearing registration number BSA-8243 and during the search found 38 pp bags containing foreign origin betel nuts weighing 1259 kilograms worth Rs629,500. 30 bundles each containing 5 tyres total 150 tyres used of assorted brand origin and size, valuing of Rs939,000. 05 tyes HI-FLY brand new origin China worth Rs115,395. 06 rolls containing foreign origin curtain cloth weighing 156 kg worth Rs279,520.

He further submitted that during the investigation, it was established that the above mentioned suspect and others are committed this offence and evaded huge money in terms of duties and taxes. After the hearing, court has taken charge sheet on court record and adjourned the case for regular hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2(s) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (89) of Section 156 (1) further read with Section 156(2) ibid.
