Customs Court approves interim bail of suspect involved in HSD smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court granted interim bail to suspect namely Ehsanullah son of Inam Khan, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle 14,000 liters non-duty paid high speed diesel.

On July 26, 2018, counsel for the accused filed bail petition and argued that his client is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case and he is ready to face trail; therefore, the court may grant him bail. After the hearing, the court granted him bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed accused person to appear before the court on next date of hearing for conformation of bail or otherwise.

On last date of hearing, Investigation Officer of Customs Preventive produced interim charge-sheet against the above mentioned suspect and informed that on credible information, customs officials intercepted Hino dumper bearing registration number TAL-204 and recovered 14000 liters HSD from gravel (crushed) and concealed in the false/fabricated tank made inside the dumper.

He further informed that during the search, accused was asked to produce legal documents of the said HSD oil, however, he failed to produce any legal documents; therefore, after formalities, the said oil and tanker were seized and accused was also arrested by customs officials.

He said that names of Azhar Malik, Senior Preventive Officer ASO/HQ MCC Preventive, Harison Sepoy, Shahzad Sepoy and Rifat Salahuddin customs officer have been mentioned in charge-sheet for witnesses.

According to the charge-sheet case was registered against suspect and others for charges of smuggling said oil for violation of under Section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8 & 89 of Section 156 (i) read with section 3 (i) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950. After the hearing, court accepted charge sheet and adjourned the matter for further proceeding and charge frame.
