Customs Court approves interim challan against accused in smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim charge sheet and issued non-bailable warrants against absconding suspect namely Syedullah son of Maagul, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid Dunhil Signature Blend cigarettes London.

On April 18, 2019, investigation officer submitted interim charge sheet and informed that on an actionable information, customs team intercepted a Suzuki Every van bearing registration no: CU-6194 and during the search found 62 kilograms foreign origin One-2-One gutka (packed in UAE), 90 kilograms JM Brand gutka, 90 danda of Dunhil Signature Blend cigarettes London and 3 cartons Benson & Hedges special filter cigarettes London, having total value of Rs2,970,000.

He submitted that during the search, arrested suspect Najeed Ullah was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, goods were seized and he was also taken into custody.

After the hearing, court approved challan and issued non-bailable warrants against above-named absconding suspect.

Names of Iftikhar Hasan Khan, complainant/inspector preventive customs Shahbaz and Danish, sepoys Anti-Smuggling Organization were mentioned in charge sheet as witnesses.

Case was registered for violation of Section 2(s) 156 (2) 156 (2) and 178 of Customs act, 1969 punishable under Clause 8 & 89 of Section 156 (i) ibid.
