Customs Court approves interim charge sheet against suspect in smuggling of Ajinomoto Salt case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim charge sheet and issued non-bail able warrants against absconding suspect namely Muhammad Iqbal Bhutto son of Dhani Bux Bhutto owner of vehicle, who was nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle 7,000 kg monosodium glutamate (Ajinomoto Salt) worth Rs2,170,000.

On 18 September 2020, investigation officer appeared before the court and submitted charge sheet against absconding suspect and informed the court that during checking, customs officials found Mazda truck bearing registration number: TKA-664 (Baluchistan).

He further informed the court that during the search customs officials found 280 pp bags containing monosodium glutamate (Ajinomoto Salt) bearing mark as Caihua made in China production date April 08, 2019 and expiry date April 07, 2022 each pp bag weighing 25 kg total 7,000 kg worth Rs2,170,000.

He argued that prosecution is trying its best for his arrest and he will be produce when arrested.

After the hearing, court approved charge sheet and issued non-bail able warrants against absconding suspect and directed investigation officer to arrest him and produce on next date of haring.

According to the prosecution case was registered by Mushtaq Ahmed Preventive Officer Customs House Karachi for violation under section 2(s) 32, 121, 128 & 178 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8, 14, 63, 64, 89, 90 of section 156(i) ibid.
