Customs Court approves judicial remand of suspect in cloth smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling on Friday sent a suspect to jail on a 14-day judicial remand. Earlier, the accused was on physical remand for three days and he was in custody of the Customs Department for investigation.

According to details available to Customs Today, Khursheed Ahmad was arrested by the Customs Intelligence team. After arresting the accused, the Customs Intelligence started investigations against him and got his physical remand. The suspect has now been sent to jail on judicial remand.

The Customs Intelligence team has also recovered a huge quantity of foreign made smuggled cloth and related goods from his possession.

The Customs intelligence told the court that accused was involved in smuggling of cloth from India to Shadman Market of Lahore and Faisalabad via different routes. The value of the recovered cloth is Rs 6.6 million.

Customs Investigation team produced him before the customs court and asked for their physical remand to dig out network behind this smuggling mafia. Three days remand was approved by the court which is now extended now for one day.

After completion of 14 days judicial remand he will be presented before the court for further proceeding. Pakistan Customs has registered a case against him under Pakistan Customs Act of 1969.
