Customs Court approves judicial remand of two cell phone smugglers

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling has approved 14 days judicial remand of two accused  who are involved in mobile smuggling case.

Sources told Customs Today that the court of Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan has sent two accused namely Zahid Iqbal and Shakeel Sultan to jail on  judicial remand. Earlier, they were in custody of the Investigation and Prosecution team of Customs Faisalabad for investigation in mobile smuggling case.

Both of the accused Zahid Iqbal and his counterpart Shakeel Sultan were arrested by the customs authorities at Faisalabad international airport.

According to details both accused were coming from Dubai to Faisalabad through a private airline FZ 343 when they were booked by the customs. During checking of the luggage customs authorities found 196 costly mobile phones from their bags that were hidden in a technical way in bags of the accused. Customs Faisalabad arrested them and registered a case under Pakistan Customs Act 1969.

For more investigation customs investigation and prosecution team presented them before the court and asked for 14 days physical remand. They argued in the court  that more investigations are required from the accused as they are involved in smuggling of mobile phones from long time and are supplying that smuggled cell phones in local markets. They said that investigation is required to dig out the network behind the accused.

Customs Court after hearing the arguments granted four days physical remand of both accused and handover them to customs investigation and prosecuting Faisalabad for investigation. After completion of physical remand the court of Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan sent him to jail for judicial remand.

Mobile phones of different companies’ including apple, Samsung and other brands were found from the accused that have huge value in local market.
