Customs Court approves judicial remand of tyres’ smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent an accused to jail on judicial remand for 14 days in tyres smuggling case.

Earlier, he was in custody of Customs Investigation and Prosecution team on physical remand for interrogation.

According to the details, the Customs Intelligence intercepted a truck coming from Quetta near Thokar Niaz Baig. While searching of the truck, the officials found huge quantity of smuggled tyres, which were packed technically, as five tyres were wrapped in a single packing. Tyres of different brands and for various vehicles including Pajero, Mazda Truck, etc were seized during the raid.

The value of the recovered tyres estimated at Rs 5 million. The tyres were being allegedly supplied to a Lahore based businessman, Mati ur Rehman.

The customs team presented him before the court of Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan where he was sent on four days physical remand for interrogation.

After completion of physical remand, the customs again presented him before the court where the court sent him to jail on judicial remand.
