Customs Court approves physical remand of accused in dry fruits smuggling

LAHORE: The Duty Judge of the Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Monday approved two days physical remand of the accused, who was arrested in smuggling of almonds and other dry fruits from Afghanistan to Lahore.

According to details, an accused Ashiq Khan was arrested by the Customs Intelligence from Multan Road when a truck was intercepted by the customs team. During search of the truck customs team recovered huge quantity of smuggled almonds, pistachios and other dry fruits. Sources told that worth of the recovered dry fruits is Rs24 million in local market. By smuggling of these dry fruits from Afghanistan to Lahore via Peshawar the accused has caused a loss of Rs 5 million.

After initial investigations customs team also raided in different areas of the city to arrest his counterparts. Customs Investigation team produced him before the Customs Court for getting his physical remand to investigate more on the issue that was approved by the court. After completion of the remand customs team will present him again before the court for further action.
