Customs Court approves physical remand of accused in mobile accessories smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Hassan Abbas son of Muhammad Hanif to customs preventive custody on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report booked for smuggling of electronic and mobile accessories goods.

On 17 September 2021, investigation officer submits that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted the above -mentioned accused at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) and during the scanning of his baggage, recovered 2 iPad 8th generation 128GB. 7 Nos MacBook 13-inch 256 GB. One pcs MacBook 13-inch 512 GB. One piece Kamera Canon EOS 6 D. 7 pcs HP Laptop. 4 pics Ispiron Laptop. 80 pcs of Redme Airdots. 300 pcs Kingston USB 64 GB.  3500 pcs USB Chip. 23 pcs Mobile Sony X peria and others goods.

Investigation officer added that after recovery of the goods, the accused was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, customs officials seized the above mentioned goods and the accused was arrested and a first information report (FIR) registered as well.

Investigation officer argues that prosecution needs further investigation from accused, therefore, court may send him back on physical remand, after the hearing, court sent him back to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
