Customs Court approves physical remand of accused involved in smuggling

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved two days physical remand of accused, who was arrested in smuggling of almonds and other dry fruits from Afghanistan to Lahore.

According to details accused Ashiq Khan was arrested by the Customs Intelligence team from Multan Road when a truck was intercepted by the customs team. During search of the truck customs team found huge quantity of almonds, pistachios and some other dry fruits as well.

Sources told that worth of the recovered dry fruits is more than Rs 24 million in local market.

By smuggling of these dry fruits from Afghanistan to Lahore via peshawar the accused has caused huge loss to the national kitty.

Customs team produced him before Customs Court for getting his physical remand to investigate more on the issue that was approved by the court. Customs Court Judge Arshad ali has approved his remand for two days. After completion of the remand customs team will produce him again before the court for further action.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation has registered a case against the accused and launched investigation as well after confiscating the vehicle and dry fruits etc that he was trying to smuggle. Customs team has registered a case against him under Customs Act 1969.
