Customs court approves remand of accused booked in HSD smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Muhammad Anis Khan, Siraj Khan and Raaj Malook, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 10,000 liters HSD, to Central Jail on judicial remand.

On December 05, 2018, investigation officer of Customs Preventive produced the above-named suspects before the court and informed that during the search, a team of customs authorities intercepted a Hino water tanker bearing registration number TUD-248 and Toyota Corolla Car bearing registration number AJC-922 and recovered 10,000 liters of HSD.

He further submitted that during the search, they were asked to produce lawful documents, which they failed to produce. Therefore, they were arrested and goods and vehicles were also taken into custody.

After the hearing, court sent them to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigations and submit challan on next date of hearing. The court also directed jail authorities to produce them before the court on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against them for Violation of 2 (s), 156(2), 157(2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses (8) (89) of Section 156 (1) ibid read with Section 3 (1) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
