Customs Court approves remand of accused involved in betel nuts smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Muhammad Nazir son of Hakim Khan and Usman Ghani son of Haji Muhammad to Central Jail on judicial remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband betel nuts.

On Tuesday, Investigation Officer Subedar, Muhammad Humayun produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on a credible information, a team of Pakistan Coast Guard intercepted a truck bearing registration number TKN-946 and recovered 17220 kg betel nuts and suspects were asked to produce lawful documents, which they failed to produce.

Investigation officer further informed the court that after formalities, the above mentioned suspects and goods were seized by the officials and case was registered against them.

He argued that prosecution needs further prosecution from said accused person therefore, court may grant them physical remand and send them to their custody.

However, after the hearing, court sent them to jail on judicial remand and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against them on next of hearing.
