Customs Court approves remand of accused involved in HSD oil smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects Muhammad Ameen son of Haji Sahib Khan and Haji Abdullah son of Abdul to customs department on physical remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 13,035 liters High Speed Diesel (HSD).

On November 6, 2018, investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on a actionable information, a team of Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted a Hino oil tanker bearing registration no: JQ-0850 and found 13,035 liters HSD oil.

He further informed the court that during the raid, accused were asked to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, accused were arrested and said goods were taken into custody.

He submitted that prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may send them back, after the hearing court sent them back to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against them for violation of Section 2 (s) 156(2) 157(2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause 8 & 89 of Section 156 (i) ibid.
