Customs Court approves remand of accused involved in smuggling of foreign currency

MULTAN: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved four days physical remand of the two accused who were arrested from Multan International Airport in a bid to smuggle foreign currency.

According to details, customs staff deputed at Multan International Airport recovered almost 97000 foreign currency of Saudi riyals, UAE dirham sand US dollars from passenger Muhammad Asghar resident of Muzaffargarh Rohillahwali and Muhammad Nawaz resident of Dera Ghazi Khan.

Both accused were arrested by Customs Inspector Muhammad Aslam, Inspector Jahangir Ali, Inspector Ghulam Muhammad, Inspector Farrukh Ghulam Abbas, Inspector Muhammad Iqbal and others who were on duty recovered foreign currency from their pockets during checking in arrival lounge at Multan International Airport.

Both accused were failed to produce any legal justification about recovered foreign currency and they have not declared their foreign currency at Multan Airport. Both accused were going to Sharjah from Multan through PK-293.

Customs Investigation and Prosecution has lodged criminal case against both accused after initial investigation and booked them in foreign currency smuggling by detaining their passport along with foreign currency.

Accused were produced before the Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Judge where Customs Investigation and Prosecution requested for physical remand for further interrogation from them. The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Judge granted four days physical remand of both accused involved in smuggling of foreign currency.

After completion of the remand customs team will present them again before the court for further action.
