KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Alam Shah, Muhammad Ameen to customs department on physical remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid artificial imitation jewelry, hair accessories etc.
On March 07, 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive produced them before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs team intercepted one Nissan trailer bearing registration no: Z-2063 model 2008.
He further submitted that during the search, customs team found 390 cartons containing assorted artificial imitation/ artificial jewelry made in India 19595 kilograms valuing Rs15,911,140 and 150 cartons containing assorted hair accessories hair pins assorted color, design & seize, made in India, 3800 kilograms valuing Rs1,649,200 from said Nissan trailer.
He argued that during the raid, suspects were asked to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, customs team seized goods and suspects also were taken into custody.
He stated that prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may send them on physical remand. After the hearing, court sent them to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause 8 & 89 of Section 156 (1) ibid read with Section 3 (1) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
