Customs Court approves remand of suspect in polyester fabric’s smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved physical remand of suspect namely Amad Hussain son of Shah Afzal and sent him back to customs department, who was involved in a case of attempting to smuggle foreign origin polyester fabric worth Rs33,247,607.

On July 9, 2019 investigation officer produced above mentioned suspect along with first information report (FIR) and informed the court that information was received to the effect that huge quantity of smuggled/non-paid foreign origin fabric was coming from Quetta to Karachi.

He further informed the court that pursuant to the aforesaid information, a team of ASO officers mounted surveillance near Bahria Town at M-9 and during the search intercepted Nissan truck/ trailer bearing registration number C-1424 and recovered 9 poly propylene bundles containing 180 ‘thans’/rolls of polyester grey fabric un-dyed/un-bleached total 15300 yards valuing of Rs528,179; 240 poly propylene bundles containing 960 rolls of HYS SUN TEX, Royal Touch Super FDY 108, Fabric total 103,680 yards valuing of Rs 31,651,200 and 15 poly propylene bundles containing 108 roll of HAY AAA Grade Top Black 2018 Superior quality hi-class ‘abaya’ fabric 100% polyester specially made for high touch quality 81,000 yards valuing of Rs1,068,228.

He said that during the search, driver has not produced any lawful documents of the said goods, therefore, after the formalities, the goods along with vehicle were seized and he was also taken into custody.

He submitted that prosecution needs further investigation for said arrested suspect for arrest of owner of goods and other culprits, therefore, court may send him back to customs department on physical remand, after the hearing, court granted his physical remand and directed investigation produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
