KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects Muhammad Jawaid and Irshad Khan to customs lock-up on physical remand who are booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid foreign origin mobile phones etc.
On November 11, 2019, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate Jinnah International Airport, Karachi produced them before the court and informed that on actionable information, the above mentioned suspects were suspects at airport who were coming from Dubai through the Emirates Airline.
He submits that during the search, customs officials found 28 Apple I-Phone XI PRO. 108 Motorola mobile phones, 10 Motorola mini mobile, 35 VIVO mobile phones, 03 LG mobile, 20 Panasonix card less phone, 89 watch model O MAX, 400 USB/ memory card, 4 projectors total worth Rs12,095,890.
He said that after the formalities, goods were seized and suspects also were taken into customs custody and first information report was lodged complainant by Khalid Hussain, Preventive Officer Jinnah International Airport Karachi.
He argued that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of other suspects and collection of evidences, therefore, court may grant their physical remand, after the hearing, court granted their physical remand and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and produce them before the court on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2(s) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (89) of section 156 (1) further read with section 156(2) ibid.
