KARACHI: The Customs Court approved physical remand of suspects namely Basit Ullah son of Samiullah, Umraiz Khan son of Shah Zameen Khan, Ijaz UL Haq son of Noor Bacha, Ashraf Ali so of Saleem Badshah and Mahmood Khan son of Muhammad Sayed and sent them back to customs lock-up, who were nominated in FIR of smuggling of non-duty paid 18000 liters diesel.
On 7 September 2020, investigation officer submitted first information report and produced above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on an actionable information that a wooden launch namely Al-Waheed registration no BFD8210 registered in Gwadar, loaded with Iran origin smuggling non-duty paid diesel oil is moving in the vicinity of Karachi coastal area and involve in illegal activity of delivery/ sale of said illegal diesel oil to the other crafts.
He submitted that suspected launch was spotted in the open sea near Charna Island loaded with 18,000 liters diesel and during the formalities, above mentioned suspects were asked to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, above mentioned suspects were arrested and diesel along with wooden launch were taken into customs custody.
He argues that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of financier, abettors and others therefore, court may approve their physical remand.
After the hearing, court approved their physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
