Customs Court approves remand of suspects in mobile phones smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Saad son of Abdul Samad and Abdullah Khan son of Iqbal Ahmed Khan to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand who are booked in a case of attempting to smuggle huge foreign mobile phones.

On 28 November 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that suspects were coming from Dubai through Emirates Airline and on actionable information customs officials approached them and intercepted.

He further submits that during the search of their luggage customs team found 08 Apple I-Phone model XI. 06, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, 2 Mi 9 mobile phones, 1 Apple I-Phone 7 Plus, Laptop Intel Inside Nvidia Sr. No J9NRCV02D77639F worth Rs1,860,000.

He argued that after the search, they were asked to produce lawful documents of the above mentioned suspects, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, they were arrested and goods were seized by the customs authority.

After the hearing, court sent them to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2(s) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (89) of section 156 (1) further read with section 156(2) ibid.
