Customs Court approves remand of suspects involved in gutka smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Rai Muhammad son of Faiz Muhammad and Sadeeq Ullah son of Usman Ghani to Pakistan Coast Guards on physical remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid One 2 One gutka and others contraband goods.

After hearing on July 19, 2018, the court sent them to Pakistan Coast Guards on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce above mentioned suspects before the court along with progress report on next date of hearing.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Muhammad Humayun produced the suspects before the court and informed that during the checking, officials of the Pakistan Coast Guards intercepted a Hino truck and during the checking recovered 9222 packets gutka and other contraband goods

He further informed that the suspects were asked to produce lawful documents of said goods, who failed to provide any legal documents; therefore, Pakistan Coast Guards officials seized the goods and Hino truck and arrested the suspects. He submitted that prosecution needs further investigation; therefore, the court may send them on physical remand.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against above mentioned suspects for violation of under Section 2 (s) and 16, 156 (1) (8) (89) and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969.
