Customs court approves three-day physical remand of alleged big gold smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a three-day physical remand of an accused in Rs40million gold smuggling case on Monday.

The Collectorate of Customs Preventive foiled a bid to smuggle gold worth Rs40million at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.

The customs authorities searched a passenger who was coming from Manchester to Lahore. The customs authorities identified smuggler as Imran and recovered two kilograms of gold from him. The customs authorities apprehended the suspect after impounding the gold. It was said that the search operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Collector Customs Preventive.

An FIR was lodged and the arrested accused was produced before the court on Monday for a physical remand to investigate further regarding the smuggling attempt. The court had approved the three-day physical remand.

It is necessary to mention here that the Customs Preventive team had enhanced its monitoring process to thwart any attempt of smuggling. The marginal decrease is being witnessed due to strict measures adopted by the Customs Preventive.
