Customs Court sentences one month imprisonment to bootlegger

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent a suspect, Shakeel Ahmed, to jail for one month in an alcohol smuggling case.

According to details available with Customs Today, Shakeel Ahmad was arrested by the Punjab Rangers near Wagah border while he was making an attempt to smuggle alcohol from India to Pakistan. He was caught red handed by the mobile party of the Punjab Rangers. More than 48 bottles of Indian made alcohol were recovered from his possession.

An investigation team of the Punjab Rangers presented him before the Customs Court. After completion of investigation, Rangers presented a challan against the accused.

During hearing of the case, he found guilty as per witnesses and proofs. Customs Judge Aqal Hassan Chuhan announced a verdict and sent him to jail for one month imprisonment.

The Customs Court has imposed a fine penalty as well. In case of failure of submission of fine he will bear more imprisonment.
