According to the prosecution, Karani was caught with 112,500 Saudi Riyals at the Jinnah International Airport on August 29, 2015. The accused was about to fly to Dubai with huge sum of money without declaring it. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and an FIR was registered against him under the customs laws.

Advocate Syed Shabeer H Shah moved the bail application on behalf of the accused, requesting the court to grant his client bail as it had already given such concession in several similar cases.
