Customs Court convicts lady in mis-declaration case

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi convicted till rising of the court and fined Rs 100,000 to suspect lady Rizwana wife of Muhammad Hanif, owner of M/s Rukhsar Trading Company. She was booked in a mis-declaration case.

During the hearing, counsel for the both parties argued their final arguments. Counsel for the Customs Department argued that prosecution has sufficient evidences and has submitted before the court, therefore, suspect is not entitle to get any relief. However, counsel for lady submitted that prosecution has not submitted any concrete evidence against her client and she was falsely implicated in this case, therefore, the court may acquit her.

After the arguments, the court convicted her till rising of the court and fined her Rs 100,000. If she is failed to pay fine amount than she will suffer two months imprisonment in Central Jail Karachi.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 16, 32 (2) 32A, of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 9, 14, 14-A, and 46 of the section 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 read with Import and Export Exemption Control Act 1958.
