Customs Court directs approves pre-arrest bail of suspects in electronic goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim pre-arrest bail of suspects namely Muhammad Waqas son of Rasheed Ahmed and Arslan Qureshi son of Muhammad Ehsan-ul-Hussain, who were nominated in first information report (FIR) for smuggling of electronics goods and caused loss to national exchequer.

On 26 November 2020, above mentioned suspects appeared before the court along with their counsel and argued that his clients are innocent and have been falsely implicated in this case, who are ready to face trail, however, they have apprehension of arrest by customs authorities, therefore, court may grant their pre-arrest bail till final judgment in this case.

He further argued that if his clients are arrested they are bound to suffer harassment, humiliation, loss of their personal prestige and reputation.

After the hearing, counsel approved their bail and observes in its order that “without touching the merits of the case, ad-interim pre-arrest bail is granted to applicants subject to furnishing their solvent surety in the sum of Rs300,000 each with P.R bond in the like amount to the satisfaction of this court, the applicants are directed to join investigation of the case.

Notice to special prosecutor customs and call police papers. The applicants are directed to attend this court on the next date of hearing for confirmation of bail or otherwise”.

Case was registered for violation of under section 156 (1) (8) & (70) of the customs act, 1969.
