Customs Court sends two suspects involved in diesel smuggling case to jail on judicial remand

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent two suspects, Abdul Nafay and Noor Ali, to Central Jail on judicial remand and directed the investigation officer to submit charge sheet against them. The suspects were booked for attempting to smuggle 45,000 liter Iranian origin high speed diesel.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Pervaiz Ahmed Zardari, produced the suspects before the court and submitted that the Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted an oil tanker bearing registration number TKS-540 in the limits of Moucko Check Post Hub River on January 22, 2017 and recovered 45,000 liter Iranian high speed diesel. The worth of the diesel is said to be Rs 3.46 million open market.

The investigation officer also informed the court that both accused were asked to produce legal documents of the diesel, but they had failed to produce anything. Therefore, diesel and oil tanker were taken into the custody and the suspects were arrested.

After the hearing the statement, the court sent the suspects to Central Jail Karachi and directed the investigation officer to complete the investigation and submit charge sheet against them.

The case was registered in violation of section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub section (1) read with sub section (2) of section 156 ibid.
