Customs court directs probe team to complete challan of alleged 14-kg gold smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has asked the investigation team of Pakistan Customs to complete the investigation challan of a case of 14-kg of gold smuggling. The court had extended the 14-day judicial remand of one accused Muhammad Riaz in the notorious case of 14 kilogram gold smuggling.

Accused Muhammad Riaz was held by the customs authorities after the rejection of pre-arrest bail plea by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Accused Muhammad Riaz is the main accused in the smuggling of huge quantity of gold into Dubai.

Earlier, the customs authorities had apprehended two female suspects involved in the smuggling of 14-kg gold and currencies at the Multan International Airport. The customs authorities had recovered some 39,000 Saudi riyals and United Arab Emirates dirham. The value of the currency and gold seized is about Rs64.6million.

Accused Muhammad Riaz had been in the custody of customs investigation on a physical remand. At the start of the month, he had been produced before the court of Masood Arshad from where he had been sent to jail for judicial trial.

Another accused of the case, Mazhar Hussain, is still absconder.
