KARACHI: The Customs Court directed the investigation officer of customs preventive to complete investigation and arrest the owner, financiers, perpetrators and others, who were involved in the first information report for smuggling of contraband goods into Pakistan.
On 19 December 2020, investigation officer submitted first information report before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted a Daewoo Bus bearing registration number No: LET-666 and during the search, found foreign origin assorted types and brands 4920 kg cloth valuing of Rs14,169, 600. Foreign origin assorted 200 kg cloth micro velvet valuing of Rs640,000. Malaysia origin, assorted types 25 pcs of Amplifier valuing of Rs280,000. 6 pcs of dry battery Delphi brand valuing of Rs300,000. 1960 kg Platinum Motorcycle Chain valuing of Rs5,880,000. 20 pcs tyre of foreign origin assorted types and brand valuing of Rs160,000. Samsung LED, Chickpeas New and other contraband goods total valuing of Rs61, 747, 200.
He further submitted that no one came forward to claim the ownership of impugned foreign origin goods, nor any documents to substantiate the lawful import/ procurement/ purchase and storage of foreign origin goods is produced as yet.
He states that it has been established that the recovered foreign origin recovered goods are smuggled and non-duty paid and no one has valid documents for the lawful importation/ procurement/ possession etc and that’s why after the formalities, customs officials registered FIR and seized the same.
