Customs Court directs to arrest suspects in cigarettes, gutka smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to arrest culprits, owner and facilitator and produce them before the court, nominated in a first information report (FIR) for smuggling of foreign origin cigarettes, gutka etc.

On May 20, 2019, investigation officer informed the court that on an actionable information, a team of Customs Preventive raided near Ferozpur Wala Builing, Jaswani Road, S.M Science College, Karachi and found that a consignment of various cartons and PP bags were lying alongside the road.

He further submitted that during the search, customs officials found 440 dandas DUNHIL Switch cigarettes, British American worth Rs528,000,800 dandas DUNHIL Signature Blend, King size filter, Tobacco London worth Rs1,200,000, 1100 dandas Benson & Hedges Special Filter cigarettes London worth Rs1,650,000, 82500 pouches Reshmi Pan Masala (330 kilogram) worth Rs1,650,000; 375 kilogram One-2-One gutka packed in UAE worth Rs3,750,000; 52.5 kilogram Z-21 gutka made in India worth Rs525,000; 350 kg J.M Gutka made in India worth Rs3,500,000.

Investigation officer further informed that efforts are afoot to arrest the owner and accused persons and other associates involved in this scam. After the hearing, court took first information report on court record and directed him to arrest suspects and produce them before the court. Court also directed him to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
