KARACHI: The Customs Court dismissed bail petition filed by suspects namely Zeeshan Ali Awan, son of Sikandar Ali, and Muhammad Aamir, son of Sain Muhammad Sohail, who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle 10,000 Boostin/Somatotropin injections and mobile phones.
On January 14, 2019, the court passed order on bail petition and observed in its order that “the alleged offence under Section 156(1) (8) of the Customs Act, 1969 falls within the prohibitory clause of Section 497 Cr PC. The contraband injections were imported illicitly in violation of the order of Supreme Court of Pakistan. I do not find the case of applicants fit for grant of bail, therefore, both bail petitions are hereby dismissed”.
Earlier, during the hearing, counsel for the accused moved bail petition and argued that they were falsely implicated in this case, they are ready to face trail and ready to submit surety before this court, therefore, court may grant their bail till final judgment in this case.
According to investigation officer of Customs Preventive, on a credible information, above-mentioned suspects were intercepted at International Arrival, JIAP, Karachi and recovered foreign origin hormones injections which induce cows to produce more milk.
He further submitted that one laptop, Samsung S8, Samsung S7 edge, Nokia 105 and Samsung SM-G950F were recovered from suspects having total value of Rs30 million.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) 16, 139 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses (8) (89) & (70) of Section 156(i) ibid read with baggage rules notified vide SRO-666(1) ibid and other related laws.
