Customs Court extends judicial remand of tyres smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended judicial remand of a suspect who was arrested from Lahore with a truck loaded with costly tyres.

Sources told Customs Today that the accused was arrested when a team of Customs Intelligence intercepted a truck which was coming from Quetta near Thokar Niaz Baig. During searching of the truck, the customs officials found a huge quantity of smuggled tyres which were tactfully hidden and packed. Sources said that tyres were packed almost five in one tyre. The tyres which were recovered by customs team included costly tyres of Pajero, Mazda trucks and other vehicles. Different brands of tyres were also recovered from the truck.

Sources told that market value of seized tyres is almost of Rs5 million and these were being carried to Lahore for a businessman Matiur Rehman.

Customs team produced the accused before the court of Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan from where the judge handed over him to customs team for interrogation for four days physical remand and then he was sent to jail for judicial trial.
