Customs Court extends judicial remand of tyres’ smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended judicial remand of an accused who was arrested from Lahore with a truck loaded with smuggled tyres.

The accused was arrested when the Customs Intelligence team intercepted a truck which was coming from Quetta near Thokar Niaz Baig. During searching of the truck, the officials found a huge quantity of smuggled tyres, which were tactfully hidden and packed.

The tyres of different vehicles including Pajero, Mazda Trucks and other vehicles were confiscated during the raid. The tyres were being supplied to a Lahore-based businessman, Matiur Rehman. The value has been estimated at Rs 5 million.

Customs team produced the accused before the court of Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan where the judge handed over him to customs team for interrogation on four days physical remand. Later he was sent to jail on judicial trial.
