Customs Court extends physical remand of currency smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved the extension in physical remand of a suspect, Qaiser Iqbal, who is allegedly involved in currency smuggling case.

According to details, Qaisar Iqbal was arrested by the Customs authorities from Lahore airport while he was making an attempt to smuggle a huge amount of foreign currency from Pakistan to a Gulf state. He was trying to fly through a Sharjah bound flight of Airblue PA-410. He was on three days physical remand which is extended further for two days.

Earlier during checking of his luggage, the customs officials found US dollars, euros and UK pounds that were equal to Rs 22 million in Pakistani rupees.

A case under section 156, (1), (68), (70), 157, 178 of Pakistan Customs Act 1969 was registered against him in investigation and prosecution branch of Customs House Lahore.

Now Judge of customs court Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan has approved more two days physical remand of the accused for further investigations.
