Customs Court extends remand of cell phones, LEDs’ smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent a suspect allegedly involved in smuggling of LED TVs and cell phones on a 14-day judicial remand.

Khuram Shahzad was booked by the Sialkot Customs Intelligence following the recovery of hundreds of mobile phones of different models and LED TVs worth Rs 3.5 million from his possession.

Sources said that the accused was a professional smuggler and has a big network in Lahore, Sialkot, Rawalpindi and Peshawar to make his smuggled goods safe at every step during shifting from tribal areas to big cities of Punjab.

The Customs Investigation and Prosecution, Sialkot registered a case against him under Section 2, (s), 16, 139, 157(1) and 178 of Pakistan Customs Act, 1969.

Earlier, he was in custody of Customs Investigation and Prosecution for interrogation.
