Customs Court extends remand of lady gold smuggler

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has extended the physical remand of a lady accused, Durdana Seemi Khan, for another three days. She was arrested while attempting to smuggle 50 tola gold and 49 mobile phones from Dubai to Karachi.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Masood A Khan produced the suspect before the court and informed that the customs authorities recovered gold and mobile phones worth Rs 4 million from her on November 30, 2016. The woman was arrested and a case was registered against her under Section 2 (s) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under/clauses (8) (9) of the Section 156 (i) ibid.

The officer requested the court to grant further extension in her physical remand to complete the investigations. After hearing the arguments, the court granted a three-day physical remand and directed the investigation officer to produce her on the next hearing along with progress report.
