Customs Court grants bail to Aqil Shah in smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has granted post-arrest bail to a suspect, Aqil Shah, allegedly involved in smuggling of cloth, soap and other items worth Rs 5.6 million.

Earlier, Aqil Shah was in jail on judicial remand approved by the Special Judge Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan following the request of the Customs Investigation and Prosecution.

As per details, the customs officials arrested the accused person after the recovery of smuggled items, including 1,154 kilogram of cloth, 2,555kg soap and 1,850 kg welding rods worth Rs 5.6 million from his possession.

During the raid, the officials also impounded a truck bearing Registration No TKY-965, which was being used for the transportation of smuggled items. It may mention here that the arrested accused is a resident of Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Balochistan.
