Customs Court grants bail to suspect booked in DTH, dish smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court granted bail to suspect namely Muhammad Aijaz Qureshi, who was nominated in a case of attempting to smuggling and selling of DTH equipment etc.

On December 7, 2018, counsel for suspect argued that suspect is innocent and is falsely implicated in this case and prosecution has no evidence against them; therefore, court may grant their bail. After hearing, the court granted their bail against the surety of Rs100,000 each and directed them to appear on next date of hearing before the court.

According the interim challan submitted by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that on a actionable information, a team of Customs Intelligence, FIA, PEMRA conducted a raid on Muhammadi Chowk Tando Adam and recovered illegal/ smuggled items included 22 DTH receivers, 5 digital LNB, 10 Dish (small) which were taken into possession by FIA under a proper seizure memo and registered first information report (FIR) against him.

Investigation officer said that during the course of preliminary interrogation, he had admitted that he had been doing the illegal activities of selling of DTH equipment etc since long, however, he denied the allegations of being involved in hawala/ hundi.
