KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspect Taj Muhammad, son of Baig Muhammad, who was involved in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty-paid QMobile phones etc.
On November 28, 2018, counsel for the accused filed bail petition and argued that his client is innocent and has been falsely booked in this case, who is ready to face trial; therefore, the court may grant his bail.
According to the FIR, on an-actionable information, a customs team intercepted a Toyota Hiace van bearing registration no: JF-9264 near Moachko Choky Point RCD Highway, Karachi. During the search, customs officials found 108 QMobile phones SP-2000 & SP 3000 worth Rs216,000, 59 Nokia 3310 mobile phones worth Rs236,000, 432 Nokia assorted brand mobile phones Rs648,000, 1050 packets of assorted brand Indian origin gutka 88500 pouches (117) kilograms worth Rs1,327,500, 12 SISCO satellite receiver used made is China, model D-9865 worth Rs36,000, 2 cartons containing SPARK chocolate, made in Iran, 56 kilograms worth Rs 14,840 from the said Hiace.
Investigation officer informed that the arrested accused was asked to produce any legal documents of the goods, but he failed to produce; therefore, goods were seized and shifted to Customs House and suspect was also arrested. He said investigations of the case are continuing and complete whereabouts of consignors and consignees of the seized goods are to be obtained from M/s Leopards Courier Service, the role of staff of the courier is also under scrutiny; therefore, it is prayed to grant further time under Section 344 CR.PC.
A case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) 156 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses 89 of Section 156 (1) ibid read with Section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
