LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a two-day physical remand of the accused held in smuggling of mobile phones and some other items as well from Lahore.
Accused, identified as Afghan citizen Muhammad Nawaz, was arrested by the customs intelligence authorities from Lahore when he was coming to supply a big quantity of smuggling cell phones to Hall Road market which is the largest mobile market of Pakistan.
He was intercepted by the customs authorities. The customs intelligence authorities conducted an operation on the intelligence based information. The customs intelligence recovered a big quantity of smuggling and non-custom-paid mobile phones and accessories from the possession of the accused. The worth of the recovered items is more than Rs7million in the local market. The accused caused the treasury a big loss in the wake of duties and taxes.
The customs investigation team had presented him before the customs court for getting his physical remand to investigate more on the issue that was granted by the court. Customs Judge Tahir Sabir approved his remand for two days. After the completion of the remand, customs team will present him again before the court for further action.
The customs has registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation as well after taking into possession the vehicle and cloths that he was trying to smuggle.
The customs authorities have registered a case against him under the Pakistan Customs Act-1969.
