Customs court to hear Rs80million tax evasion case on Thursday

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling will hear the case of an accused, Manzoor Ahmad, arrested on the charge of tax evasion. The hearing will be held on Thursday.
Sources told Customs Today that a suspect, Manzoor Ahmad, was charged with tax evasion. Manzoor Ahmad has a textile factory on Raiwind road. He was allegedly involved in tax evasion by submitting fake returns and other statements before the FBR.
On the intelligence information, the Inland Revenue Department registered a case against him under Pakistan Sales Tax Act and started investigations. After collecting proofs against the accused, the Inland Revenue produced him before the court of Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan for physical remand. On a request, the customs court approved his physical remand for three days and handed over him to investigation team for further investigations.

The customs court granted him bail as well. The accused has allegedly evaded Rs80million in the wake of sales tax from 2013 to 2014.
