Customs Court issues arrest warrants for alleged cell phones’ smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for an accused, Irfan Aziz, who is allegedly involved in a cell phones smuggling case.

According to the details, the accused is wanted by the Multan Customs authorities in the case for interrogation but he was not coordinating. Therefore, the Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) moved the court for getting arrest warrants against the accused. Now, the court has issued non-bailabale arrest warrants against him.

The accused was arrested at Multan airport when he was trying to smuggle 1,000 cell phones of assorted brands into Pakistan from Bangkok by evading the duty/taxes to the tune of Rs 2.4 million. The value of the cell phones was estimated at Rs 14 million.

Later, an FIR was lodged against Irfan Nazir under Section 2 (s), 156, (1) 8 and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969.
