Customs Court issues non-bailable warrants of suspect in smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs court issued non-bailable warrants against suspect Naik Muhammad, owner of M/s Al-Habib Bus, who was absconder in foreign origin polyester cloth smuggling case.

On 15 November 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive submitted interim charge sheet against arrested suspect Fateh Khan, driver of the bus and the above-mentioned absconding suspect and informed that customs preventive intercepted Youtong Master Passenger Bus A.H Movers bearing registration no BSB-640. He submitted that during the search, customs officials recovered 287 kg foreign origin betel nuts valuing Rs172,200; 32 rolls of foreign origin polyester cloth total 2176 yards 313.6 kg valuing Rs256,838; 38 ‘thans’ of foreign origin polyester cloth total 1140 yards valuing Rs140,049; 202 ‘thans’ of net grey cloth total 1212 kgs valuing Rs718,473; 09 new tyres made in China valuing Rs206,388 and other goods.

He further informed the court that after formalities, customs department arrested above-mentioned driver, and goods along with coach shifted were taken into customs custody. According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of imports & export control act, 1950.
