Customs Court issues non-bailable warrants of suspect involved in duty, tax evasion

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool has issued non-bailable warrants for an absconding accused, Sajid Hussain, owner of M/S Iqra International in a duty and tax evasion case of Rs 5,305,246.

During the hearing, investigation officer Azhar Abbas appeared before the court and submitted interim challan. He informed the court that the absconding accused has not been arrested. Therefore, the court issued non-bailable warrants against him and adjourned the hearing for November 27, 2016.

According to the interim challan, prosecution has sufficient evidences against owner/ director of M/s Iqra International which is involved in mis-declaration and evasion of the duty and taxes amounting to Rs. 53, 05, 246.

A case was registered by Muhammad Ahmed, appraising officer of Customs Collectorate Appraisement West in violation of section 2 (s) 16, 32, (1), 79, 155A, 155E, 155F and 192 of the Customs Act, 1969, read with section 3 (1) of Import & Export Control Act, 1950, punishable under clauses 8, 9, 10 (A), 14, 45, 86 and 89 of section 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 read with section 3 (3) of the Import and Export (Control) Act, 1950.
