Customs Court issues non-bailable warrants for alleged cell phone smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for a suspect, Irfan Aziz, who is allegedly involved in a cell phones smuggling case.

The accused was arrested from Multan airport when he was trying to smuggle 1,000 cell phones of assorted brands into Pakistan from Bangkok by evading the duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 2.4 million. The value of the cell phones was estimated at Rs 14 million.

Sources told Customs Today that the accused is wanted by customs authorities of Multan for interrogation but he was not coordinating on which the Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) moved the court for getting arrest warrants against the accused. Now, the court has issued non-bailabale arrest warrants against the accused person. FIR was also lodged against Irfan Nazir under Section 2 (s), 156, (1) 8 and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969.
