Customs Court issues notices on bail petitions filed by owner, manager of M/s ZY & Co

KARACHI: The Customs Court issued notices to the investigation officer and special prosecutor for customs department on after-arrest bail petitions filed by Ghulam Shoaib son of Khawaja M Yaqoob, owner of M/s ZY & Co and Umair Sabir son of Sabir Ali, manager of M/s ZY & Co, who are in jail in a case of smuggling 500 MT vinyl acetate monomer worth Rs67,200,000 and duty and taxes are involved Rs17, 407, 286.

On 24 September 2020, counsel for the above mentioned suspects filed petitions for after-arrest bail and argued that prosecution has not single evidence against his clients and they have been falsely implicated in this case.

Counsel submitted that his clients are innocent and ready to submit surety amount against after-arrest bail, therefore, till final judgment, court may grant their bail.

Earlier, investigation officer submitted interim charge sheet and informed that information was received through the collector Enforcement & Compliance to the effect that M/s Clover Pakistan with the connivance of M/s ZY & Co have illegally removed non-duty paid vinyl acetate monomer from bonded oil tank, therefore, customs officials have reached the same and during the examination recovered 500 Metric Tons vinyl acetate monomer worth Rs 67,200,000 from the spot.

According to the prosecution, case was registered by Habibullah Appraising Officer against the above mentioned suspects for violation of section 32 (A) 97, 98, 116 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 14A, 58, 59, 61 and 62 of section 156(1)ibid.
