Customs Court orders physical remand of protocol officer of Punjab governor

LAHORE: A Special Court of Customs, Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has ordered a two-day physical remand of Rana Akhtar, who was allegedly involved in smuggling of alcohol and mobile phones, at the Lahore Airport.

Protocol officer of Punjab Governer Rana Muhammad Akhtar was arrested by customs officials at Allama Iqbal Airport when he was trying to clear his friend Naeem Saddiqi through green channel. The Customs Court granted the two-day physical remand of the accused. Court handed him over to the investigation team of the customs for further investigations.

According to airport officials, Naeem Sadiqi was coming from Abu Dhabi and Protocol Officer Rana Akhtar introduced him before Customs officials as guest of the governor. He was trying to clear him through Green Channel which is used only for VIPs. Custom staff checked two bags of Naeem Sadiqi and recovered 130 mobile phones of different models worth Rs 3 million and 10 bottles of alcohol.
