Customs court orders to place name of suspect on Exit Control List

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has ordered the authorities concerned to place the name of an absconding accused, who is allegedly involved in smuggling of weapons into the country, on the Exit Control List.

Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi gave this order on the request of the investigation officer.

At the outset, Investigation Officer Siraj Panhwar told the court that he needed some time to complete the investigation and submit the final challan. The court gave him the last chance to submit the final challan in the case within 15 days and adjourned the hearing till October 2, 2015.

According to the FIA officials, several parts of 9mm were recovered from the personal baggage of Mumtazuddin at Jinnah International Airport on August 21 ,2014. During interrogation, he confessed that he used to smuggle unassembled parts of weapons for a NADRA official Col (r) Hafeez. Subsequently, an FIR was registered against him and his two accomplices.
