Customs court postpones 23 cases’ hearings due to deaths of lawyers

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Tuesday postponed the hearing of 23 cases related to customs and income tax due to deaths of senior lawyer Abdul Hafeez Lakho and others.

On Tuesday, 23 cases related to customs and income tax were fixed before the Customs Court, however judge was informed that the Sindh High Court Bar Association and Karachi Bar Association have appealed to the lawyer community to suspend the work due to deaths of senior lawyers who have died in the last few days. On the request of lawyers’ community, the court postponed the hearing of all the cases.

According to the cause-list, 13 out of 23 cases were fixed for formal hearing of the accused named Muhammad Ali and others, Kamran Wahid Khan, Syed Rizwan Rashid and others, Habib-ur-Rahman, Bashir Ahmed, Ahsan, Atiq-ur-Rahman and others, Sadiq Masih, Muhammad Naeem, Hussain Umer and others and Rana Zahoor Elahi.

Ten out of overall 23 cases were fixed for prosecution evidences against accused S M Naqi and others, S M Abbas Zaidi and others, Ali Shan and others, Abdul Ghaffar, Akhtar Ali Tahir and others and Muhammad Naeem and others.
