Customs court puts off hearing of cigarette-smuggling into US by October 4

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has adjourned a case of a cigarette-smuggling case for October 4 on Wednesday. A case was registered against an accused arrested by the customs authorities from the Allama Iqbal International Airport while attempting to smuggle a huge quantity of cigarettes.

Sources told Customs Today that accused Rameez Iftikhar was apprehended on the charges of smuggling of cigarettes into America. He was making a bid to smuggle cigarettes into USA while declaring them cloths. The value of the item is more than Rs1.3million.

Earlier, customs investigation team presented Rameez Iftikhar before the court of customs taxation and anti-smuggling judge. The team asked the court that they have completed investigation from the accused in a five-day physical remand. On a request of the customs team, the special judge of the customs court sent him to jail for judicial trial. He got a bail from the court last week against the surety bonds of Rs100000.

Meanwhile, about 17 other cases were also scheduled for hearing on Wednesday. Most of the cases were postponed without any proceedings. Framing of charges against Rasheed was also adjourned for next week. Final arguments and statements of the parties concerned in a case of smuggling against Rafique Ali were also scheduled for hearing which was rescheduled for next week.
