Customs Court records statement of prosecution witness in tax evasion case

KARACHI: The Customs Court recording statement of prosecution witness and directed other witnesses to come prepare for next date of hearing, in a case against suspect namely Hamza Bandukda who was nominated in First Information (FIR) losses of revenue amounting to Rs1,94,765,264 to the national exchequer by illegal removal of warehouse goods from the warehouse HECOTEX.

On 5 April 2022, during the hearing, above mentioned suspect, investigation officer, special prosecutor for customs department and witnesses appeared before the court.

According to the prosecution, above mentioned accused and others are allegedly involved for illegal removal of velvet suiting fabric, chiffon suiting weighing 171, 421 kg were warehoused against 11 goods declarations, but now in place of said warehoused goods some pieces of useless cloths are present which also with complete difference in weight.

Case was registered for violation under section 2 (s) of the customs act, 1969 read with section 156(2), 187 & 187 of act ibid further read with section 3(i) of the imports & export control act, 1950 and other related laws and other relevant laws.

Investigation officer has completed the investigation and submitted a progress report before the court and court also approved and took charge sheet on court record.

Trial court has directed the investigation officer to submit a final charge sheet against a comprehensive investigation.
